Let Our Children Be Our Example

Parents who have nurtured, cared and raised their children in love, compassion and understanding, will always reap the ultimate reward, and that is, the love and loyalty of their children. This does not happen overnight and takes years of sacrifice.

This is why children who grew up in a loving family, despite the fact that their parents would scold them whenever they do wrong, would always return to their parents no matter what happens. In fact, even if they feel hurt, they would ultimately run back to the arms of their parents.

That is faith. It is the act of total surrender. It overcomes the hurt and replaces the latter with trust and love.

Just like us adults, in our journey with our God. How many times have we asked God the question, “Why? Why me Lord? What did I do wrong? Am I that sinful for you to effect such an unbearable punishment?”

So many times, we’ve asked God these questions, but God has reasons, and in everything, we simply have to abandon ourselves and surrender our whole being to Him. We need to have that faith, even one as small as a mustard seed, believing in the immense love of our God for us.

Just like a little child, who, after some scolding, would cry, get hurt, or complain, yet afterwards, would run back to her parent seeking comfort and love.

Let us be like the little child. Yes, the torments of life may seem unbearable, but we can always come to God, whom we know will embrace us and love us no matter who we are or what we have done.

If we find it difficult at times to pray and come to God, then perhaps, we can spend some moments with him in the church, like in San Antonio Abad Parish in Bacolod City, or other nearby churches, and just let Him touch our lives in the silence of our hearts.
