Faith without works is dead

Indeed, how can there be faith when it is not shown? And how then can profound acts of love come about without faith?

Today’s readings at the San Antonio Abad Parish church in Bacolod City tell us a lot about what faith is all about. Faith is a gift. It is something that has been given to us from the time that we were in our mother’s womb. And we are tasked to practice that faith, to nurture it, and to show that we are living that faith.
Isn’t it that we take good care of the gifts that are given to us? Sometimes, we are even afraid to use those gifts in fear that we destroy them in process. While this may be laudable, it isn’t the same when it comes to faith.

Taking care of our faith means going out of our comfort zones to practice our faith. We don’t need to die like the martyrs because in today’s modern times, the little things that we do can either reflect our faith or show how little our faith really is.

How many times have we experienced choosing a particular church to go to for Sunday mass because we will be passing by it on our way to the mall. or, we would only go to church as a form of convenience. Since we are already going shopping and are out of our homes, then we might as well go to mass.

These are some examples that show that we fail to make the least effort when it comes to taking good care of our faith.

So try to get rid of your old self starting today and take care of your faith. Remember that our faith is a gift, we must not just accept it, but we have to use it, so that in one way or another, we get to appreciate it. Let’s take care of our faith lest we regret it later at having lost it.
